The Sea of Thieves anniversary update was released in April this year as one of the major updates to add new series of quests, fishing, a PvP arena mode and more. Meanwhile, the huge update has grown the Sea of Thieves playerbase with an addition of 2 million players to the game with a total of 8.4 million.
Although the game was also available on Xbox Game Pass while this much playerbase is really surprising. Game’s executive producer Joe Neate said, that this is just a beginning. Moreover, the title’s design director Mike Chapman also came forward and talked about the studio’s plans for future updates and constantly keeping that playerbase alive.
We’ve been going at a pace that isn’t sustainable. and the team has done an amazing job, but these are the two pillars of our plans going forward: It’s cadence and regularity for the players, but it’s also making it so that there’s flexibility in the plan as to when some things land. As long as stuff is always going out to players and we’ve got the regularity, it doesn’t matter as much when the bigger, riskier things land from a development perspective.
Moreover, Neate said that the Pets were also going to be included in the anniversary update this year. But sadly the designs couldn’t reach the quality it was expected to meet. Although he did confirm that they will be added to the game soon with more “social value”.
The Sea of Thieves was also announced as default pre-loaded game for Xbox One S All-Digital edition along with Forza Horizon 3 and Minecraft. Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure game developed and released by Rare for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One on March 20th, 2018.
