As Mortal Kombat is on its way for release on April 23, 2019 there have been many questions asked from community concerning its features and mechanics. Mortal Kombat 11 cross platform is one big question that is repeatedly asked, it is yet to see if players from different platform can pull each others kidney out.
In London at press WCCFTECH asked Game Designer Derek Kertiz about Mortal Kombat 11 cross platform support, which was answered further as ‘details cannot be discussed right now ‘ and they hope to do it at some point. With an interview with Game Revolution regarding to switch version producer Trever Traub said,
We’re trying to reach as many people as we possible can, so we are going to take that opportunity.
With the biggest fighting game title to increase player base with cross-platform would certainly broaden the playing field but with MK11 to launch in over two months, it seems highly unlikely that feature will be ready for day one, but that isn’t to say it might go down the line.
MK11 is build on Unreal Engine 4 which is almost designed for cross-play, it is easy to imagine the developers taking advantage of Epic’s cross-play features to roll- out this year. If it goes possible Mortal Kombat 11 will be the first fighter Sony game to embrace multiplayer bases with cross-play.
Since its also coming to Nintendo Switch which becomes table of discussion, if NetherRealm can find a way to handshake the platform’s alternate version of game.
Since the fiasco of crossplay becoming more and more trending we’d say it will come after initial launch. The only thing we all wonder how full it will support. Microsoft and Nintendo has been fairly contributed into Cross-play but will Sony allow to dip there player base into cross-platform support?
