The new Mortal Kombat 11 is just a few days away from release and NetherRealm Studios has already started to push details further. A recent report has revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 always-online connection will be required to unlock achievements and gears sets in the game.
A Reddit post has revealed that according to a developer from NetherRealm Studios, the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 will feature always-online connection support which will allow players to unlock different items and access content in the game. These items range from The Krypt, Towers of Time mode, earning gears from matches and trophies or achievements, etc.
The developer has revealed the news through a Twitter post which is now deleted. It seems like developers locking the game content is some kind of bold move for the payoff, because the online component in a fighting game which locks players to access the single-player content doesn’t make sense at all.
Another rumor suggests that the NetherRealm is pushing this component to connect it with the Mortal Kombat 11 microtransactions, which means players can only purchase them if they remain online. But still, it is a ridiculous requirement to talk about a fighting game.
The news also connects to the studio’s previous fighting game, Injustice 2 which allowed players to access content even in offline mode. We will not know the exact reason for the Mortal Kombat 11 always-online connection but still, hope that the studio will explain themselves.
Warner Bros has always followed practices to milk sales from all kinds of titles they have published yet. To take an example, Shadow of War is a significant one in which Warner Bros added microtransaction and loot boxes while game purely focuses on single player. The new Mortal Kombat 11 is set to release on April 23, 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
