Following the success of Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy and Spyro Reignited trilogy, fans can expect more Activision remasters in coming years. Activision President Rob Kostich told the investors that the remasters are having a great impact on bottom line and that these franchises must endure. In short, he hinted for future Activision remasters.
President Rob Kostich in a Activision Blizzard Inc (ATVI) Q2 2019 earnings call transcript said about remastered games that:
When you look at our IP library, we think there’s a lot of IP in there the fans are going to want to experience again… I’d say stay tuned for some future announcements, but just beyond pure remasters, there are also a lot of opportunities now to innovate and think about totally new content within these IPs
Activision has worked on some great IPs in days of PlayStation 1 era. Since the president has clearly mentioned that they will work on more reamsteres, it will be interesting to see what franchise comes next.
The primary reason these remasters have enjoyed success is the nostalgia. Many gamers have grown up playing these games in 90s era and when they get to see the modern graphical upgrade of their beloved franchises, they just can resist from buying one copy of it.
Interestingly, Activision has tons of IPs left behind to release again as remasters. There is Tenchu series, which was a stealth ninja game. Activision can sell solid remastered copies if they do great in re imagining Tony Hawks Pro Skater series.
